About Sepia Soul
Sepia Soul was going to be titled Distant Rain until a line from my song My Last Stand came out of nowhere and described me. "I am gone to search for the mother lode / a new dawn / a sepia soul." I write relatively few autobiographical songs, but this one, in particular the phrase Sepia Soul, captured my proclivity for literary, traditional, Americana-oriented songwriting.
Sepia Soul was recorded and released during one of the most creative periods of my career. My CD Westerns had received exceptional praise, and I wanted to follow it up fairly quickly. A 'best-of' compilation that included six brand new songs mixed with ten compositions from my first three CD's seemed in order, and allowed me to present what I felt were my best songs to date. As I said in Sepia Soul's original liner notes, " I tend to bend genres, I'm told. Whatever you call this music - Americana, progressive country, western, roots, folk - it's all a reflection of my western self." The recording turned out to be my calling card, and I remain as gratified with listeners' responses today as I was when it was newly released."

Praise for Sepia Soul
"It's very difficult to categorize Jon Chandler's music. It is western, sorta, because Chandler is a man of the West, but it is also, at times, Americana, progressive country, folk, southern bluegrass, balladesque. Regardless, listening to this Jon Chandler album is a beautiful musical experience."
