About Maybe It's the Moon
I'd wanted to do a live recording of my trio, Jon Chandler and the Wichitones for several years, so Butch Hause tracked two shows in 2004, the first at the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV, and the second as part of my America's Soul Live concert series at the Olde Town Pickin' Parlor in Arvada, Colorado. Ernie Martinez and Butch Hause played like devils, Mary Huckins sang like and angel, Johnny Neill played some fine fiddle, and we got some great tracks. The limited edition CD, complete with hand-assembled artwork from artistic design genius Greg Carr, was released in January 2005. However, my wife, Pat had just suffered a ruptured aneurysm and the next year was devoted to her recovery with little thought of promoting a CD. So in a sense this re-release (which lacks only the ambitious packaging of the original) is actually the "real" release. I hope you enjoy the spontaneity , the fine pickin', the humor and most of all, the songs themselves.
Praise for Maybe It's the Moon
"An incredible voice, combined with the skill of a true storyteller and backed by two of the best sidemen in the music industry, makes Jon Chandler excel on this live recording. From the title cut, "Maybe it's the Moon," a song that's part ditty, part whimsey, to the drumbeat tempo of "Geronimo's Men" this album has variety enough to satisfy any ear."
- American Cowboy Magazine
"Thank God for Chandler and his gang of musicians. Thank for bringing this disc to those of us pinned between a concrete wall and a polyester drapery in the city. Sitting here listening to "The Spanish Peaks" I am taken back to the comforts of personal travels through the mountains and the beauty of simple life that our country offers, should we seek it. Keep up the good work Jon Chandler, we need you."
